Agit Kabayel is the new EBU European heavyweight champion! The 30-year-old SES boxer fought his heart out in his hometown of Bochum in an incredible battle with the two-year-older Agron Smakici.
Ten months after his last fight Agit Kabayel returned to the ring and started off very aggressively against the 32-year-old Croatian Agron Smakici (19-2-0, 17 KOs), who was boxing in the orthodox stance and was more on the defensive. However, in the second round, Kabayel was almost in for a nasty surprise!

Kabayel was sent into the ropes after several heavy blows from Smakici but survived the round wobbling all over the ring. He also had to deal with a cut injury to his eye. But shortly thereafter, Agit Kabayel came back with impressive combinations of his own.
In the third round, Kabayel relentlessly attacked his exhausted opponent with hard punches until Agron Smakici finally went down for the first time. After that knockdown, the Bochum fighter continued to pursue Smakici, not giving him any rest. After 2:37 minutes in the third round, the referee finally stopped the fight.
Agit Kabayel, who was celebrated frenetically by his home audience, has once again grabbed the EBU European championship crown. Kabayel now hopes to be able to fight for a world title soon, as he explained in the winner’s interview. Promoter Ulf Steinforth (SES) was thrilled: “Bochum is the new boxing capital!”
